Welcome!
First English Lutheran Church was formally organized and founded on June 16,1918 on the east side of Wausau as the first English-speaking Lutheran church. In 1949, a new church building was constructed on Wausau's west side to fill the need for our fast-growing congregation.
We are a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America following its Vision Statement, God's Work, Our Hands. Today, our congregation continues to work serving God, one another, and our neighbors. Through the waters of Holy Baptism, bread and wine of Holy Communion, and the Word of God, we are joined in God's family and God's promise of grace, hope and love. It is through these gifts that God promises that we can share them throughout our community and the world. We continue our mission and ministry knowing God is with us; knowing Jesus leads us; and knowing our mission:
"Sharing the Light of Christ."
Faith
Faith is the cornerstone of our church. It is part of every activity that we do, every meeting that we hold. We believe in our Lord, and that our actions are a reflection of his goodness.
Scripture
We look to the Lord for guidance in our lives. In Scripture, we find all that we need to guide us in the right path. Reading and understand Scripture helps us all live meaningful lives.
Communion
At First English, all who are baptized are invited to receive Holy Communion. Guests and friends do not have to be a member, nor do they have to be Lutheran. We celebrate the Sacrament in the confidence that Christ is fully present for all. Everyone is welcome at God's table of grace.
Community Outreach
First English is a congregation that has a proud history of outreach in our community and around the world by supporting charitable organizations, giving both our time and financial resources, and we continue to do that. We strive to offer a variety of service opportunities for all ages.
Youth Ministry
The Gospel has a message for everyone, of every age, and in every language. Exposing your child to the Lord's path when they are young gives them guidance, hope and strength that lasts a lifetime. To learn more, get in touch with one of our Pastors.
